Ragpicker’s Dream

Posted by Ree on April 11th, 2006

Yesterday I took a cab home from work. This guy was the archetypal Israeli cab driver: twice he stopped in the middle of the road to shout hellos to friends (once another cabdriver, and once a shopkeeper), several times he snaked around a long line of cars only to squeeze in at the front of the line, at three separate lights he honked before the light turned green (just to make sure the people in the front were paying attention), and once he got impatient with the person in front of him (who was making a right turn), so he litterally passed the guy on the left at the turn, driving up on the curb to avoid hitting the fellow.

Sometimes in a cab you feel required to make polite conversation. After all of the above had taken place, we arrived at Pat junction - never was there such a place for traffic and congestion. I commented on the fact that Pat was always such a mess, and he replied, “yeah, it’s because people around here are such bad drivers.”

Anyone for sushi? I made it myself! So, here’s my excuse for lack of bloggage - in case you aren’t aware, Franklin and I are madly gearing up for a conference in L.A. At this conference, Franklin will be performing in a musical and helping lead worship at a large event, and I will be helping out on the technical side of things. Not only do we have a huge amount of conference related work to accomplish before we leave next Friday, we also have to finish up our normal work and several non-work related issues before we leave. Please pray for us!

You may remember that Franklin has been taking a guitar making course. That course is now over, and Franklin is scrambling to finish his guitar before we leave. This may be problematic, as the shop where he does his work is pretty much closed for Passover until after we leave. Anyway, I hope he gets it done, it sure looks beautiful so far.

That’s the scoop for now - I hope to write more soon.
